Bestwood Park Country Park and Mill Lake, Thursday 4 July 2019

We shall meet at the Griffins Head, Papplewick, at our usual time of 10.00 for a 10.30 start. Papplewick is on the B6011, just north of Nottingham.

The simplest way, coming from north or south, would be to travel via the M1 to junction 27 turning onto the A606 towards Annesley and Mansfield After a couple of miles turn right again onto the A611, heading towards Hucknall and Nottingham. Just before you get to Hucknall turn left at roundabout onto the B6011 signposted towards Linby and Papplewick. The Griffins Head is on the right at a crossroads in the village and has plenty of parking at the rear. Both roads going past the pub, though, can be quite busy, so please take care when turning into the car park.

There is no suitable pub in Bestwood, which is why we’re meeting at the Griffins Head which we’ve used on a couple of previous occasions. The walk is an undemanding one on hard tracks through woodland (Big Wood), is just over 4 miles long and starts at Bestwood Country Park a 5 minute drive away from the pub with a large free car park.
